The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the young people and support the curriculum subjects as a method of communication.
The curriculum is focus on the development and understanding of skills for life within ICT and therefore Computing Science is taught through the ICT focused curriculum provision. The two areas of study do overlap. For example an education Computer Science includes aspects of the use and application of computers, and an education in ICT covers aspects of programming and understanding of computing devices. But as learners progress to specialised subjects, the focus of ICT provision is to support learners moving forward to adulthood, employment, training and further education.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) focuses on the creative and productive use and application of technology and computer systems, especially in organisations. We take ICT to also include Information Technology, Applied ICT, Digital Literacy and Skills, and e-safety, across the curriculum.
Computer Science is the study of the foundational principles and practices of computation and computational thinking, and their application in the design and development of computer systems.
The courses run at Trinity School and College are NCFE Information Technology Qualification (Level 1, 2 and 3) and the full range of Functional Skills ICT at ELC, Level 1 and 2.
ICT is used extensively to be assistive to the young learner. It support communication and learning across the curriculum with access to specialist supportive software when needed. Trinity has invested heavily in ICT in the past two years with touch screen technology in the ICT suite, in an interactive table for group activities, ipad access for all School Students and iMedia studies (including Into Film Projects) as well as laptops for all College and Gateway Students.
