Trinity School and College provides opportunities to recognise the Arts through the Arts Award Programme.

The Arts Award is…

  • a great way for children and young people to be inspired by and enjoy the arts
  • offered at five levels, four accredited and one introductory award
  • a framework for learning new skills and sharing them
  • an opportunity to develop creativity and leadership skills
  • a link between young people and creative arts professionals

Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications that support anyone up to 25 years of age to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world through taking challenges in an art form – from fashion to film making, pottery to poetry.

Through Arts Award young people gain a nationally recognised qualification enabling them to progress into further education and employment. Arts Award has five levels, four of which (Explore, Bronze, Silver, Gold) are accredited qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Arts Award Discover is an introductory level.

As they work towards Arts Award, children and young people collect evidence of what they have done and reflect on their experiences.  At Discover, Explore and Bronze they can choose to use the specially designed arts logs – or you can create your own to fit your project or the young people you’re working with.  Evidence can also be collected in any format that works for them and you: a folder, sketchbook, video diary, a website or blog.

At all levels, children and young people work with the Trinity School and College Arts Award Advisors, Janice Phillips, Beth Lanning, Michaela Bolton and Charys Beswick. These trained professionals support young people in gaining arts experiences, provides guidance and assesses arts portfolios.

The Arts Award programme within Trinity School and College is supported by evidence of achievement within the creative element of Currculum for Life (see below), Art and Design, Craft, Media, Music, Drama and Dance. In fact within Art and Design learning sessions, the Arts Award allows the learner to find out what inspires them, to share their talents and to make a difference to themselves and others.

Our Curriculum for Life?
Our Curriculum for Life encompasses safeguarding, personal, health, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as preparing learners for adulthood, further training, employment. Trinity School has developed the programme to show progress of young learners towards becoming independent, healthy and positive members of our society.

Safeguarding
Learning in a safe, caring and supportive learning environment, to develop personal safeguarding through an awareness of risks and threats to own safety, including online safety, extremism and radicalisation, bullying and intimidation.

Personal
Developing personal qualities, routines and skills for life to include: road safety, following timetables, completing transactions, communication, problem solving, working with others, independence, personal research, communication, use of ICT, functional literacy and numeracy.

Health
To be able to make positive decisions to ensure health and safety, including hygiene, working with mentoring and intervention programmes to support anxiety; sex education and safeguarding.

Spiritual
Explore beliefs and experience; learning about different faiths and respecting their importance to others. Exploring own feelings and values and enjoying learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world in a creative, reflective and innovative way.

Moral
Recognise right and wrong; respecting and understanding the law which affects us as citizens; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views.

Social
Appreciating diverse viewpoints, participating and working as a volunteer or with others, cooperating, resolving and engaging with the fundamental values of the British democracy.

Cultural
Appreciate cultural influences and appreciate the role of Britain’s parliamentary system. Participate in cultural opportunities in order to understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.

Preparing for adulthood
Through a range of cross curricular learning opportunities developing an understanding of a range of careers, work opportunities and knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of being an employee.
